Where are we now, you ask? We know that she floats; that’s the good news, now she has a pretty fancy scum line too. Before GR left her we battened down the hatches just in case of nasty weather. This meant extra lines on the mooring and putting the dinghy on deck. She has been sitting, although not completely neglected, for 5 weeks. I visited her last week for a checkup and she was proudly displaying her new name. She beamed at me and as I rowed out to greet her, I could just hear her purring. She was covered with these little bugs and pollen was collecting around the waterline. Inside was dry, there were no water puddles anywhere. YAY!
Meanwhile, we have been scouring the Internet and stores for supplies and making lists on how to outfit her. The highly anticipated arrival of our Beast (engine) has transpired and so she sits in the garage awaiting installation. It’s not so much about what the hull looks like, just like a house; the inside is where you spend your time. This is going to be our new home and the interior is the most important part of making a boat a home. For the first couple months all we did was clean this pig! But now she is starting to come together. For the salon we had custom seat cushions made using bone colored vinyl. Easy to clean and left unharmed when a bikini-clad kid sits down or has a spill. We still need to get the seat backs made but I paired some throw pillows and it really felt like “WOW! She is gonna be perfect,” Just for a moment it was as if I wouldn’t miss living in the house so much. Ha, Ha. I’m just going to hold onto that thought when I am showering in a public marina, with my shower shoes on and my portable blow dryer!
So anyway, back to the plans! We must install that engine! We can’t wait to hear the Beast just purring like a diesel kitty, ready to mosey on up the St. John’s River and down to St. Augustine Inlet! While cruising down or up the river, one must not be without TUNEAGE!! So, a stereo is a must, one with an Ipod plug of course, speakers in the cockpit as well as the cabin. Other miscellaneous things like electrical panel and wiring.I’m very excited about our new floor. We are going to install a new teak and holly sole. This will really pull it all together, creating a not so dingy look. Right now the floor is painted ugly, gray garage floor paint color…ick.
